roc'n'rob studio

The spirit of roc’n’rob is young like that of the origins of rock & roll in the 50’s, with no ties and fresh, constantly searching for new sensations and new angles.

Life

Roc’n’rob is a design group set up in Barcelona by brother and sister team Rocío and Roberto Gonzalez Peñalver. Rocio was born in Castellón in 1978. She obtained her Diploma of Industrial Design from the Faculty of Technology and Experimental Science, Castellón. In 2003 she moved to Barcelona where she worked for Santa&Cole in the technical department of lighting and urban elements between 2001 and 2004. Since 2004 she has worked with Metalarte in the development of illumination products. Roberto was born in Castellón in 1981. He graduated as an Architect from the Superior Technical School of Architecture, Barcelona (UPC) in 2007. During his degree he collaborated in the BAAS architect Studio, 2003-2004, with architect Marc Viader in 2006 and with architect Sergi Serrat in 2007-2008. Since 2009 he has worked with the architect and design studio Indissoluble.com. In the Autumn of 2006 the team, together with the architect Lola Rodríguez Torre, presented at the Ideas competition ‘Transitions - Light on the move’ promoted by Philips with the design of a LED light installation. This collaboration together with the design of unedited ''Avinyó'' lamp make up the base for the formation of roc''n''rob. Between the ''Avinyó'' lamp and the Urn ''There is a light that never goes out'' in 2009, both Rocío and Roberto developed their design knowledge in a practical environment with diverse projects both personal and professional: from an illumination project in an architect’s and artist’s dwelling to a five star hotel, from the construction of a building of subsidised housing for the elderly to the installation of a temporary exhibition in a Cathedral.

Work

The spirit of roc’n’rob is young like that of the origins of rock & roll in the 50’s, with no ties and fresh, constantly searching for new sensations and new angles. The work of roc’n’rob is engaging and profound in its products, history and surroundings, through a musical packaging which includes references to songs and groups from the pop culture, they bring design to the people, and link design to culture.

Funeral art

Funeral rites are characteristic of the human species and since its origin has been associated on many occasions with artistic representations which have developed over centuries. The fact of it being one of the most deep rooted human traditions has not made it one of the most up to date. To achieve a design that levels with the emotions at hand on the loss of a loved one is one of the most incredible challenges to which we can come up against. Funeral art may be alive and present, able to evoke as much a person as a place, a moment or an emotion.
